5-Night Kenya Road Safari Itinerary

Samburu – Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

Day 1: Nairobi → Samburu National Reserve (Drive)

Depart Nairobi in the morning, traveling north via the scenic Kenyan highlands toward Samburu National Reserve (approx. 5–6 hours). Arrive in time for lunch at your chosen Samburu safari lodge or tented camp. Afternoon game drive introduces you to Samburu’s unique wildlife such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk. Dinner and overnight in Samburu.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives across the rugged Samburu landscapes, with the Ewaso Nyiro River attracting elephants, lions, and leopards. Birdwatchers can spot kingfishers, sunbirds, and eagles. Optional cultural visit to a Samburu village. Overnight at your Samburu lodge or camp.

Day 3: Samburu → Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, depart Samburu for Lake Nakuru National Park (approx. 6–7 hours). Arrive at Egret Savannah Camp in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive to see the park’s famous rhinos, flamingos, giraffes, and big cats. Return to camp for sundowners, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru → Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, drive south through the Great Rift Valley to the legendary Masai Mara (approx. 3–5 hours). Arrive for lunch at your Masai Mara luxury camp or lodge, then head out on an afternoon game drive. The Mara is home to Africa’s highest concentration of big cats. Dinner and overnight in the Masai Mara.

Day 5: Full Day in Masai Mara

Spend the day exploring the Mara’s golden savannahs on game drives. Between July and October, witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the natural wonders of the world. Year-round, the reserve offers spectacular sightings of elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, lions, and diverse birdlife. Optional hot air balloon safari at dawn (extra cost). Overnight in the Masai Mara.

Day 6: Masai Mara → Nairobi (Departure)

After a final sunrise game drive and breakfast, check out and begin your road journey back to Nairobi (approx. 5–6 hours). Arrive by late afternoon for your onward flight or hotel drop-off.
