Best of Kenya Safari
10 magical nights exploring three of Kenya’s most amazing regions
This itinerary offers a wonderful overview of Kenya’s wild spaces, combining three very different landscapes and including a superb mix of different experiences. Game viewing is excellent for most of the 10 days on safari, and where game concentrations are not as high, activities such as walking and cultural experiences become available to offer something different. The scenery is stunning throughout and all three regions featured are able to offer high levels of exclusivity. All three properties included are owner-run which creates camp individuality and a warm safari atmosphere throughout, with friendly, personal service.
ITINERARY DETAILS
Day 1-3: Lewa House – 3 nights
From Nairobi, take a scheduled light aircraft flight north to the exclusive Lewa Conservancy in central Kenya, sandwiched between the extensive Laikipia Plateau, Samburu National Reserve and Mount Kenya. On arrival you will be met and transferred across the conservancy to Lewa House, arriving in time to settle in and enjoy lunch overlooking the waterhole and plains beyond.
Your time on Lewa will focus on morning and afternoon game drives to view the exceptional big game of Lewa, and afternoon drives can be extended to include night drives, using a spotlight to seek out nocturnal species. There are also options for walking safaris, camel safaris, horse-riding, visits to the conservancy headquarters and day trips to explore further afield. Lewa House has a lovely setting overlooking a wide plain and waterhole surrounded by rolling hills, and the atmosphere is relaxed and exclusive.
Day 4-6: Sarara Camp – 3 nights
After an early morning game drive you will connect with a scheduled light aircraft flight north over Samburu National Reserve to the southern edge of the Mathews Range (this transfer can be undertaken by road if preferred). Here you will land in Namunyak Conservancy and transfer to the nearby Sarara Camp, set on a hillside with wonderful views of the southern Mathews Range peaks and plains beneath them. Sarara is not a traditional big game destination, and the wildlife shares the conservancy with local Samburu pastoralists and their livestock, but there is a surprising amount of game to be seen, including elephant (who are regular visitors to the camp waterhole), leopard and some rarer species such as lesser kudu and gerenuk.
However, Sarara is wonderful for scenery, relaxation, birding, walking and culture, with particular highlights being the chance to witness the ‘singing wells’ and visit Reteti Elephant Orphanage. Sarara offers a wonderful ‘escape’ and has a very relaxed, tranquil ambiance, making a great stop in between two more game-oriented experiences.
Day 7-10: Ngare Serian – 4 nights
After an early morning activity, you will take a light aircraft transfer south to Nanyuki where you connect with a scheduled light aircraft flight south-west over the Great Rift Valley to reach the open plains of the Masai Mara. You’ll land within the exclusive Mara North Conservancy, where you will be met by your private guide from Ngare Serian and transferred, game viewing en route, to arrive in camp in time for lunch.
Your days will be spent exploring the Mara North Conservancy (with a private guide and vehicle), enjoying its excellent game viewing opportunities. Being a private conservancy, the experience is much more exclusive than being in the Masai Mara National Reserve. In addition to game drives, you can also enjoy guided bush walks, night drives and visit a traditional village. If you visit during the migration season (July to October), you can consider adding a day trip into the National Reserve for a chance of seeing a wildebeest river crossing.
Day 11: End of Arrangements
Your morning is at leisure for a final game drive, before you connect with a scheduled light aircraft flight back to Nairobi.
