To optimise your experience, our guides work together with a spotter: an invaluable extra pair of eyes to ceaselessly scan the landscape while your guide focuses on navigating the terrain, and translating the inner workings of the wilderness to you. The dynamic of this duo perfectly encapsulates the holistic approach we take toward bush knowledge.

While the guides have studied, completed courses, read books and learned scientific names, our spotters are specially selected from local tribes for their ancient, inherited knowledge passed down and absorbed osmotically from centuries of their ancestors. In this way, ‘book-knowledge’ plus an ancient system acquired over an age of living the wild life interweaves seamlessly to form a rich tapestry of knowledge to share. Testament to the success of this approach is borne by our very proud wins in the annual Good Safari Guide Awards: In 2014, we won Runner Up Best Safari Guiding Team in Africa In 2015 we won Best Safari Guiding Team in Africa

THE GREAT MIGRATION

One common misperception is that ‘the migration’ connotes the renowned wildebeest river crossings. This, however, is only a small part of their annual migratory cycle. There is also the birthing season, the rut, and of course their movement up the length of the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem, and back.

Their reach spans Kenya’s Masai Mara at its northernmost tip, the full stretch of the Serengeti, and all the way down to the limits of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the south. Our camps are situated to make the most of the two main spectacles: the river crossings, and the birthing season.

WALKING SAFARIS

The key is in the gradual nature of your exploration: a progressive immersion where time is marked not by a ticking watch but by the sun’s lazy arc across the sky takes you to a more immediate connection with your surrounds. Your senses thrum to life, widening your perceptive capacities to their fullest function, accentuated by the deep peace and silence of wide open spaces.

For those concerned that hiking sounds like hard work, the pace is set by you, and is punctuated by plenty of stops along the way to discover, learn and marvel at the infinite fascinations you will chance upon. And at the day’s end, creature comforts await: cosy beds, warm bucket showers, and a hearty meal around the campfire as you gaze up at the stars.

From the beginner to the professional, being out in the bush is a great place to let your creativity loose through the medium of your camera: the landscapes, the wildlife, the people, the light… the sheer range of photographic potential is staggering.

There’s a whole world of exciting things to do and beautiful places to see, and of chief importance is making sure you have enough time to indulge in a good range of the sublime experiences on offer. We’ve designed a collection of sample itineraries to lend some inspiration on how to put the ultimate trip together.

You’ll see we’re big fans of combining our camps, and this is because each location proffers a different experience. Our camps are scattered across two countries, and a diverse range of wildlife zones – Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara Reserve, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Conservation Area – and on top of that, each camp has its own unique character too.

We also love mixing up traditional game drives with other fun activities: balloon rides, bush dinners, exploring at night, getting out on foot, river fishing, learning traditional cultures… There are so many ways to enrich your safari experience.

Of course, we are all about flexibility, so if you’d like to pick and mix and concoct your own safari, that’s an option too – all the ingredients are there for the taking.
