Nimali Mara
Northern Serengeti – Kogatende (Serengeti National Park) – Where Remote Takes On New Meaning
In the extreme north of the Serengeti, close to the border with neighbouring Kenya, the Mara River slices through one of the most far-flung corners of Tanzania, where rolling green hills dotted with acacia trees open into wide, grassy savannahs. This is where the great wildebeest migration meets its biggest challenge at its peak between July and October each year—crossing the Mara, a river with some of the highest concentrations of crocodiles in Africa. It’s also where you’ll find Nimali Mara—a lodge literally on the edge of the action.
Serengeti’s Hidden Gem: Nimali Mara, Where Wildlife Roams Free
Nimali Mara is a secluded safari camp located in a remote area of the northern Serengeti. It offers exclusive and intimate experiences, especially outside of the great migration season. The camp provides exceptional game viewing opportunities throughout the year, with high concentrations of various wildlife species including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas.
The Mara River, which is just a short drive away, is home to large numbers of hippos and crocodiles, thanks to the wildebeest and zebra that become prey to these predators during the great migration.
Blending with Nature: Nimali Mara’s Unique Retreat in the Serengeti
Nimali Mara is a safari lodge in the Serengeti that offers unique and relaxing spaces for guests. The lodge blends into its surroundings and utilizes the natural rock formations to create these spaces. It features an infinity pool set within a cave, providing a cool spot during hot days. The tented suites and honeymoon suites have glass fronts, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the environment and enjoy exceptional views of the Serengeti plains. The private decks have swing beds for relaxation, and the bathrooms have large copper bathtubs with windows overlooking the African wilderness. The lodge’s decor combines contemporary and natural elements, incorporating organic influences and copper fittings to create a warm atmosphere.
Activities
Nimali Mara’s main activities are morning and afternoon game drives, exploring one of the most remote regions of the Serengeti. This area is particularly well-known for its elephants and predators. A hot-air balloon flight over the northern plains and the Mara River is also highly recommended. During the great wildebeest migration’s peak, between July and October each year, we focus on the Mara River crossings.
In addition to these activities, we also offer the following:
- Spa treatments and wellness therapies
- Bush lunches & dinners
- Sundowners in the bush
- Dedicated children’s activities
