Nestled against a wooded thicket and surrounded by a savannah, Mara West Camp combines luxury accommodations with the breathtaking adventures of an unforgettable African safari. Luxury Chalets are perched in secluded spots on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, offering guests both panoramic views of the Masai Mara Game Reserve below and a sense of exclusive privacy.

The camp is home to resident herds of gazelles, impalas, and zebra, as well as an abundance of bird life, and is visited regularly by a variety of wildlife passing to and from the park. The stunning beauty of the Mara, the uninterrupted grazing of the antelope, the night calls of the bush babies, and the early morning chorus of songbirds, all this, combined with the comfortable and tasteful ambiance of the camp, is part of the Mara West experience and what makes it a unique paradise for nature lovers.

Accommodation

Secluded Chalets

Mara West Camp has 8 luxury Chalets- (6 twin Chalets, fully furnished with two queen beds each, 1 Family Chalet, and 1 suite with a king size bed suitable for honeymooners). All the 8 Chalets are perched in secluded spots on an escarpment edge overlooking the vast plains of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, giving tremendous views and a sense of private exclusion.

The rooms offer full bathroom facilities are en-suite with flush toilets and large spacious showers, complete with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. A wide front verandah overlooks Masai Mara’s vast plains below, providing spectacular views of the sunrise and glimpses of giraffe, elephant, gazelles, impalas and wildebeest as they roam the plains.

Family Chalet

The Mara West Family Chalet

The Family Chalet has two bedrooms. The first bedroom has a King size bed for the parents and the second bedroom has 2 queen size beds for the children. It also has a kitchenette complete with a fridge, stove, microwave and comfort food provided so that the kids can be put to bed early if needed, and the parents can enjoy a private dinner and socialize with other guests around the campfire. Babysitting services are also available

Safari Tents

For those seeking the tented safari experience, there are 8 fully canvased Safari Tents (5 twin Safari Tents, 1 Family Tent & 2 double Safari Tents for couples or honeymooners). The Safari Tents provide a bedroom within nature that is both comfortable and private, yet almost like sleeping outdoors. The 5 twin safari tents have two double beds, while the 2 double safari tents have a king bed. Brick bathrooms provide the same en suite amenities of the larger tented secluded chalets, with hot showers and flush toilets. Electric lighting and plug outlets are also found in each tent.

Luxury Tent accommodation

The 8th Safari Tent is a Family Tent with two bedrooms. The first bedroom has a King size bed for the parents and the second bedroom has 2 queen size beds for the children. The Family Tent also has a kitchenette complete with a fridge, stove, microwave and comfort food provided so that the kids can be put to bed early if needed, and the parents can enjoy a private dinner and socialize with other guests around the campfire. Game Drives

Game viewing in the great expanse of the Masai Mara National Game Reserve is the highlight of a stay at Mara West Camp, which is located 5KM from the Oloololo Gate.


Safaris at the Camp take the guests down into Masai Mara, where some of the world’s most impressive wildlife can be viewed. Mara West Camp has its own private road into the Masai Mara National Game Reserve, making the park easily accessible to clients throughout the year.

Mara West provides safaris in open 4×4 vehicles, great for prime game viewing and photography.

Often picnics are arranged in the park, enabling guests to travel further into remote areas. 

Birdwatchers enjoy a wide diversity of bird life at Mara West, with birds of prey soaring on the updrafts from the escarpment and special varieties nesting in the thicket that grows along the escarpment’s edge.


In addition, clients may opt to enjoy a bush breakfast or sundowners or take a guided walking safari in a designated walking area exclusively bordered by Mara West Camp.

Walking Tours

Join a guided nature walk in designated areas exclusively bordered by Mara West Camp. An experienced guide offers visitors a chance to experience Kenya flora, birds, and wildlife on foot.

Maasai Boma Tour & Dances

No visit to Kenya is complete without this truly unique cultural experience.  See the day-to-day lifestyle of the Maasai first hand by visiting a functioning Boma, an authentic residence of local Maasai who welcome clients of Mara West into their home.

Best known for their red clothing and height, the Maasai tribe places great emphasis on traditional dances and music.  Sit in on the festivities and see for yourself. Hear first-hand accounts of life as a Maasai.  These talks, in English, will provide listeners with a glimpse into Maasai lifestyle and traditions, with an opportunity to ask questions.

Tour Schools and Development Activities

Development work by the NGO, Mara West Foundation, provides local Maasai with access to primary schools, a clinic that meets basic medical needs, and improved water sources.   Visit these projects, meet staff and students, and learn more about the improved quality of life that these and other development projects make for local communities.

For guests staying three or more days, consider getting involved in a development project to benefit the local Maasai community.  Volunteer at a community school, building project, or clinic.  Ask at the Business Office to learn more about volunteer opportunities available during your stay.
