Overlooking a crossing point in the Talek River, the spectacle of the Great Migration can be enjoyed from the expansive deck in front of camp. Recently rebuilt, the lounge, dining area, and deck provide enhanced views and ample space for all guests. The surrounding plains offer a rich and rewarding wildlife experience, throughout the year. Experience sensational wildlife in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve at Rekero Camp. Nestled among the trees and overlooking the Talek River, nine classic and spacious safari tents await you. Each tent has an en suite bathroom and hot-water shower. Enjoy morning coffee on your veranda accompanied by the dawn chorus, or a good book and your favourite drink while watching wildlife on the plains across the river.
Rekero Camp was one of the first camps established in the Masai Mara, and its location was carefully considered and wisely chosen, making it the highly sought-after safari destination it is today.
Rekero camp is perfectly positioned in the heart of the Mara, overlooking the Talek River from where spectacular river crossings can be seen from the comfort of the camp, whilst offering easy access to the surrounding plains. Between July and October, nearly 1.5 million wildebeest migrate across the Mara and Talek Rivers, braving the lurking crocodiles as they search for premium grazing.
A Talek crossing point is 150 meters (490 feet) from Rekero’s dining area, and the Mara River is a short drive away. The Masai Mara boasts excellent game viewing year-round, offering a stunning concentration of resident wildlife. The territory holds many predators who are resident to the reserve, such lion, leopard, hyena, and serval.
Activities
Over a leisurely lunch on the deck, with the scent of wild sage in the air, you may hear hippo grunting in the Talek River below and see herds of wildebeest gathering on the banks, readying themselves to cross the water. The team at Rekero camp have worked here for many years and offer exceptional service, while our Maasai guides share their detailed knowledge of their homeland and the animals with which they share it.

Family Safaris
There are two family tents at Rekero, each with two separate bedrooms, sleeping up to five people per tent. The lowest age for children is 5, but we can accommodate younger children, depending on camp occupancy. We have no specific children’s programme at Rekero camp, but love welcoming families and will try to adapt activities as much as possible. Please talk to your agent about private vehicle options.
A Typical day on Safari at Rekero Camp
The best time to see wildlife is at dusk and dawn, when the temperatures are cooler and nocturnal animals are either beginning their night’s activities or winding down.
You’ll start the day bright and early with a wake-up call and tea or coffee. Enjoy breakfast before you depart for your morning game drive(or have it packed as a picnic to take with you). We head out on our first game drive just as it begins to get light, so time differs slightly depending on the season. If you have booked a private safari vehicle, you can plan a schedule with your guide. Arrive back in camp mid-morning, with a chance to freshen up before lunch.
After a leisurely lunch, enjoy siesta. Read a book or just relax and enjoy the views from your tent or one of our viewing decks. Refuel with afternoon tea before we leave for your evening game drive with sundowners. You’ll be back in time for drinks around the campfire and dinner — the perfect chance to unwind after a long day in the bush.
