Mara Serena Safari Lodge: Your Front-Row Seat to the Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth

Welcome to the heart of the Masai Mara, where the untamed spirit of Africa unfolds before your eyes. Perched high on the bush-cloaked slopes of Ol Donyo Oiseiya, Mara Serena Safari Lodge offers more than just a stay. It offers an experience. Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the only permanent lodge within the famed Mara Triangle. This location grants you exclusive, uninterrupted access to the world’s most spectacular wildlife events.

A Location Unmatched in the Mara Triangle

The Mara Triangle, the northwestern part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, is renowned for its high density of wildlife and its pristine, untouched landscapes . Unlike other parts of the reserve, this area is managed with a keen focus on conservation, meaning fewer vehicles and a more intimate safari experience.

From the lodge’s elevated vantage point, you are treated to sweeping views of the savannah and the Mara River below.

This isn’t just a place to sleep.

It’s a viewpoint that offers a front-row seat to the drama of the African wilderness.

From Mara Serena Safari Lodge, during the Great Migration, you can witness the thundering hooves of wildebeest.

They brave the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River from the lodge terrace or your private balcony.

The Mara Serena Experience

Inspired by the design of a traditional Maasai Manyatta (village), the lodge is a stunning cluster of domed huts that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape . The 74 guest rooms, each inspired by Maasai heritage, are arranged to ensure that every single room boasts an uninterrupted view of the savannah . While the decor is a vibrant celebration of local artistry, the amenities offer modern comfort, including satellite TV, internet, and lavish bathrooms .

Signature Dining and Experiences

At Mara Serena, the adventures extend well beyond the game drive .

  • Hippo Pool Breakfast: Enjoy a gourmet breakfast on the banks of the Mara River, hosted by a traditional Maasai warrior, as hippos wallow just meters away .
  • The Sundowner Ritual: This timeless safari tradition is celebrated at Lookout Hill. Enjoy cocktails and canapes as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the plains in golden light .
  • Bush BBQ Dinners: Dine under the stars surrounded by the sounds of the wild, with the scarlet-clad Maasai dancers providing entertainment .
  • Maisha Spa: After a day in the bush, rejuvenate with an “Oringa Massage” at the lodge’s spa, overlooking the savannah .

Activities

Mara Serena acts as the perfect base for a plethora of activities :

  • Game Drives: Twice-daily game drives in 4×4 vehicles to spot the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo) .
  • Hot Air Balloon Safaris: Float silently over the plains at sunrise, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush .
  • Night Game Drives: Explore the Mara after dark to spot its nocturnal inhabitants .
  • Cultural Visits: Visit a nearby Maasai village to learn about the traditions and way of life of these iconic people .
  • Escarpment Hikes: Explore the Oloololo Escarpment, which forms the dramatic western boundary of the Mara Triangle .
