Tijara beach Hotel is a remote romantic haven of peace a short distance south of Mombasa Island, Kenya, an exclusive private home which is owned and managed by Ian & Larissa Manson Hart and accommodates a maximum of 8 to 10 people at a time. At Tijara you will only hear the roaring of the ocean as the breakers roll on to the reef, and the ever present bird song from any number of the hundreds of species that frequent the Tijara beach hotel grounds.Tijara beach also have its own wildlife which includes dikdik, bush-buck, wild-pigs, genet cats, bushbabies and an abundance of exotic species of butterflies…
Having worked for many years in the "corporate" world Ian & Larissa felt the time was right to change lifestyle and look for peace and tranquility away from the rat race. With Ian being born in Kenya and Larissa having lived in the country for 20 years, they could not think of a better place to make their new home than the Kenyan Coast.
The idea of an exclusive private home was inspired by own requirements whereby they tried to avoid commercial destinations in favour of something small and unique. Ian & Larissa spent more than a year looking for the perfect location away from "civilization" with large expanses combining both privacy and seclusion. Once found, they spent nearly two more years creating the place they now call HOME!
Here at Tijara Beach hotel you are their personal guest in their private Eden! You will enjoy delicious home made meals, a lovely swimming pool, beautifully manicured lawns, landscaped gardens and a secluded beach; although they do choose to share it with the local fishermen who bring in the fresh catch of the day.
Tijara Beach Hotel Accommodation and Facilities
Tijara beach has only four spacious luxury cottages each sited on its own cliff head with large open decks that give breath-taking views of the Indian Ocean. Insect-proof king size beds with exclusively handcrafted Swahili furniture reflect the warmth and character of the local architecture. A magnificent fresh water pool and ‘al fresco’ dining area complete this enchanting resort.

All the cottages of Tijara Beach hotel are spacious with large decked verandas you can step on to from both the room and the bathroom. All cottages are en-suite with double wash basins, double showers and uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean from wherever you are! Our honeymoon cottage has a king size bath tub to add romance to your occasion.

At Tijara beach hotel you will find the most spectacular, breathtaking views, gentle waves will caress your feet and the full moon will rise from the ocean and the stars will shine as you have never seen them! We are sure that you will fall in love with Tijara Beach upon your first visit.

If you feel lazy you can simply lie on the beach close your eyes and enjoy the sight and sounds of the ocean or find a cool coral rock pool to immerse yourself in to take the heat out of your day.The Tijara beach is private and shared only with the fishermen who bring their fresh catch to us lodge daily. Fine white sand, refreshing waters of the Indian Ocean, a beautiful reef with a great variety of live shells, different star fish, corals - these are only a few things to enjoy while you are with us. We are often visited by dolphins swimming by the reef; turtles close to our beach can be seen even without taking a deep sea dive. A large variety of tropical fish will share the waters with you while you snorkel.

For those feeling energetic we recommend a short walk to the most magnificent cave which apart from being amazing has a historical value. The legend says that it is a famous Black Jack's Cave which was used during the time of slave trading. The cave has many chambers with shafts of light illuminating it within; the high tide comes in twice a day and creates intricate patterns on the floor - what a pleasure to spend your afternoon exploring!
