Nestled in the valley between the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya and the rolling peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, Solio Lodge promises to be Kenya's most luxurious new opening in 2010. The Lodge is located on the Solio Reserve, which is part of a private ranch, and is home to a diverse and numerous population of wildlife, including both black and white rhino, which is a rarity. Exclusivity, privacy, exceptional game viewing and luxurious accommodation are the hallmark at Solio.
The lodge will have just six cosy and luxurious rooms, each ensuite with large glass pane windows to take in the panoramic views of the landscape, which is framed by Mount Kenya. Each room has a private lounge area warmed by a corner fire, as well as large bathrooms with double sink, bath and shower. The rooms are designed for warmth (Solio is high in altitude and can be cold at night), as well as outdoor living with each having a deck in front for relaxation during the day.
Solio Lodge is a Tamimi Property, and as such will boast excellent standards of guiding, cuisine and personalised hosting. Activities at Solio include horseback riding, walking, game drives, fishing trips to Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains.
Solio Ranch
Solio Ranch is one of Kenya’s critical rhino habitat. The ranch is a fenced ,privately-owned protected area geared toward rhino conservation. The 7,500-acre reserve, 22 km north of Nyeri Town, plays a major part in the protection and breeding black rhinos in Kenya. The rhino is a member of the ‘Big-Five’, which are a key tourist attraction.
Solio Ranch is recognised as one of the most successful private rhino breeding reserves in Kenya. The animals live in harmony with other wildlife, including the buffalo, zebra, giraffe and plains game such as eland, oryx, impala, waterbuck, Thompson's gazelle and warthog. By the end of 2009, Kenya had 635 black rhinos and 353 white rhinos in various conservation areas around the country.
