Sasaab Camp
Samburu  Kenya
"Luxury in the wilderness of Samburu's enigmatic landscape"

Majestically situated on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River (Kenya’s third largest watercourse), Sasaab commands breathtaking views across the arid landscape of the Northern Frontier District towards the jagged peak of Mt Kenya, and offers a truly exceptional safari experience in an area renowned for its variant species.

Sasaab is on Samburu community land, within the Ngutuk Ongiron Group Ranch also known as the West Gate Conservancy. Guests fly for just over an hour from Nairobi into Buffalo Springs – although the option of long drive from Nairobi is also scenic and crosses the Equator.

Sasaab Camp is  a very high quality camp, with elegant public areas, a beautiful pool and sumptuous rooms with private spa baths. Not quite sure about the integrity of the Arabic architecture, but no doubting the quality. The lodge is built using locally sourced materials and with an exciting Moroccan influence the Carr-Hartley signature of attention to detail and elegance is the trademark of Sasaab.

Being out of the park Sasaab camp does guarantee privacy,Apart from the usual game drives, Walking, camel safari and cultural interaction  can all be enjoyed in the more peaceful areas around the lodge itself.

Sasaab accommodates up to 18 guests in nine individually located tents with magnificent views of the river and the true African wilderness, each over 100 square meters. There is wireless internet and own plunge pool and privacy. Electricity is solar powered, offering outlets for charging equipment in each tent. The uniquely designed tents are ideal for game viewing and bird-watching as well as relaxing.

About Samburu Safaris
The safari experience in Samburu land is vastly different to that found in any other part of Kenya. The Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx) are found in the area, whilst a strong cultural aspect complements the wildlife watching. The Samburu people are fiercely proud of their cultural tradition, and delight in sharing their customs with guests, making interaction with locals a major highlight in any visit to Sasaab.

Community involvement and strong environmental ethics pervade Sasaab’s operation, and over 70% of the staff at the lodge are local employees. Water is solar heated, and recycled where possible, whilst every effort is made to purchase food and source materials locally.
