Masai Mara Lodges: Little Governors’ Camp Masai Mara-Kenya Little Governors’ is an “Award Winning Safari Camp” and was rated top safari camp in Kenya by the prestigious 'World Travel Awards' for 2007 and 2008. Situated at the heart of the world richest game areas around a watering hole, close to the Mara River in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Little Governors’ Camp is set on the Musiara Marshlands, which are watered by the Mara River, the area having traditionally been reserved for Kenya's colonial Governors’.This unique area has a constant and unrivalled flow of wildlife throughout the year. To reach this untouched and remote safari camp is an adventure by itself:-First you have to cross the crocodile and hippo infested Mara River River by boat, then walk through the forest escorted by armed guards. All the 17 tents (34 beds) of Little Governors’ Camp are spread around the shores of the Musiara waterhole, which acts as the focal point for the site. From the shade of your tent veranda you can relax and enjoy the views as giraffe, elephant, zebra and warthog pass by. During the evening hippos and elephants graze in the grounds of the camp making the Masai askari (warden) guiding you back to the tent especially comforting. The gas-lit tents are particularly comfortable and spacious with the shower room being especially well-equipped. Candlelit evening meals are of a high standard from a buffet bar and generally are eaten alfresco with views of the nearby Siara escarpment. Little Governors’ Camp casts its spell over all who visit, from honeymoon couples to Presidents. Intimate in character, there are just seventeen tents tucked away amongst the trees.
