Karen Blixen Camp,Masai Mara offers an authentic ’yesteryear’ experience
for visitors wishing to gain that little extra from their safari. Set on the bank of the Mara River with the impressive Oloololo
Escarpment in the front and the Mara plains behind the location is spectacular. Throughout the day elephants, giraffes, zebras
and impalas come for a drink while a large hippo pod rest lazily in the river. The Camp gives a feeling of the early 1920’s
era with comfortable and beautiful furniture. Long gone are the days when staying in a tented camp meant roughing it. You
will find that Karen Blixen Camp is a step back in time with the luxurious of today.
The Karen Blixen camp,Masai Mara compromise 22 luxurious en-suite tents; each set on a beautiful mahogany
platform with a spacious veranda completed with cushion daybed from which one can enjoy an afternoon siesta taking in the
wonderful surroundings. Each tent at Karen Blixen camp has private bathroom with WC, twin washbasins and an outside shower
with view of the sky. The water is heated by gas burners to avoid any use of firewood. There is 24 hour electricity in all
tents provided by solar panels. 19 tents are placed along the river while 3 are set on raised platforms offering stunning
views of the surrounding area. Our family unit consist of two tents with a shared veranda.
Camp facilities also include a restaurant, a bar, a lounge, a gift shop with internet access and
a swimming pool. Our resident masseuse offers a wide range of wellness treatments.
Karen Blixen was passionate
about cooking and found her inspiration in the French, English, Italian and Danish kitchens. Through historical books we have
found many of her original recipes and dining at the Camp captures the taste of the long gone colonial days. Modern day’s
love for cosmopolitan food with clear notes from the Far East, India or Africa’s own traditional cooking is also served
alongside the continents finest wines.
Breakfast, lunch and
dinner are served in the restaurant or garden from where one has an incredible close by view to the Mara River and the
game which comes to drink. If one wish to go on a full day game drive picnic lunch basket are provided.
Safari Activities at Karen Blixen Camp Masai Mara
Being situated in one of the most densely populated
wildlife areas in the world, game viewing at Karen Blixen camp is never a disappointment.
Morning game drive at Karen Blixen camp depart just before sunrise and
return for a hearty breakfast and lunch; relax in the camp, before going on the afternoon game drive. Picnic lunch is arranged
for a full day game drive.
A must do
activity at Karen Blixen camp is the night game drive where one can experience the thrilling adventures of the night. Our
open Toyota Land Cruiser gives full view of the wildlife roaming the area. Often seen are elephants, giraffes, wildebeests,
zebras, warthog, and numerous antelopes and gazelles. Eight prides of lions, cheetahs and leopards living in the area ensure
an even more breathtaking experience.

are also able to make close wildlife encounter on a escotted Game Walk,
Enjoy gliding through the wind on a Balloon Safari,
Visit the local Masai community, go for an eco awareness tour or learn more about flora
and fauna on a garden walk.
Eco Aspects
Karen Blixen Camp is constructed and run in the most environmentally
conscious manner.
The Camp take care of the environment making sure its impact is minimized. All electricity is provided
by an extended solar panel system. Gas is used for cooking food and for heating up water for the outdoor showers. By these
measurements the Karen Blixen camp avoid excessive use of diesel or burning of firewood. Waste water is led through the sewed
system, mechanical and biological purified, ensuring zero impact of the nearby Mara River. Furthermore strict waste management
system takes care of all waste production. Organic refuse is composted and bottles, plastic or other non-organic is recycled.
All precautions are taken to protect the beautiful environment of Masai Mara of which wildlife and people rely on.
Karen Blixen Camp supports the local Masai community through various initiatives and is
responsible for a health project together with a local NGO and Danida, Danish International Development Assistance.
The Karen Blixen camp is one of the owners of Masai Mara North Conservancy and is privately
leasing more than 700 Ha of land for conservation purposes. The Camp has just begun the plantation of more than 20,000 trees.
Karen Blixen Camp is a member of Eco Tourism Kenya and participant of
UN Global Compact.
