Tucked away in the shade of a natural forest overlooking the Mara plains in a 3600sq km Koiyaki Community Ranch is Elephant Pepper Camp, a 22 bed capacity seasonal camp that closes down 2 months a year inorder preserve its special area of its location.The  spacious canvas tents are comfortably furnished, featuring en suite bathrooms with eco-friendly flush toilets and traditional safari showers.

Nothing rivals sitting around the campfire enjoying the sounds of the African night. Extended game drives make game viewing a complete experience. Elephant Pepper Camp brings people back to nature – no traffic, no permanent structures, just the sights and sounds of the African bush.

Special Features & key Wildlife at Elephant Pepper

  • Elephant Pepper Camp is situated next to a water hole, so in the dry periods there are lots of plains game around camp.
  • The grass around the camp is very high in salts, especially near the honeymoon tent where there are natural springs in the wetter times, so this attracts a lot of elephant that are free to roam around the camp at night time.
  • View the huge open plains, teaming with game, especially during the migration.
  • There is a large emphasis on walking with an experienced guide.
  • Here you experience the bush as one should: it is a personal experience with a very homely atmosphere, where we all eat together and share the beauty of the surroundings while relaxing around the campfire.
  • The Masai Mara ecosystem is famous for its astounding variety & quantity of wildlife. View Lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra…. everything!

RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

Elephant Pepper Camp has been the driving force in creating the Mara North Conservancy, which covers 70,000 acres between Musiara and Aitong. A core parcel within the Masai Mara eco-system, providing some of its prime gameviewing. The newly formed conservancy protects this vital wilderness by maintaining the area for solely wildlife conservancy use, guaranteeing its 750 Masai landowners stable revenue and transparent financial management. The ancient balance between wildlife and traditional pastoralism is preserved, and the conservancy has on the ground management of development and infrastructure

Mara Shikar Airstrip – 20 minutes drive from camp

  • Twice daily scheduled Safarilink flight departing Nairobi Wilson at 10h00 & 15h00
  • Once daily scheduled Safarilink flight departing Shaba at 09h10, Samburu & Lewa at 09h30 and Nanyuki at 09h45.
  • Three times daily in high season and twice daily in low season - Air Kenya flight departing Nairobi Wilson at 09h15, 12h15 and 15h15.
  • Once daily scheduled Air Kenya flight departing Samburu / Lewa at 08h30 and Nanyuki at 09h15.

Musiara airstrip – 1 hours drive from camp

WHAT FORM OF ELECTRICITY DOES ELEPHANT PEPPER HAVE?

  • The camp has 12 solar panels which power the whole camp.
  • All the tents have solar LED lighting.
  • Guest batteries can be charged in the office during the day, but there is no power at night.
  • Camp’s power is not strong enough to support hairdryers.

Meal Policy:Communal dining is encouraged but the camp can do private dinners on request.Please inform us about any dietary requirements prior to arrival. 

Water:Bottled drinking water is provided free of charge.

Malaria: Minimal malarial risk.

What Languages are spoken at Elephant Pepper Camp?

  • Guides - All our guides speak English and Kiswahili.
  • Management – English

Communication Services:

  • Internet: If needed, the management can send important emails on behalf of guests.
  • Mobile phones: Phone signal is available, although may cut out from time to time.
